Are you fighting for the past or for the future?
Now there is a worldwide discussion on the so-called genocide of Armenians in the Ottoman Empire. Most of my Turkish and Armenians friends have joined different groups in Facebook supporting the huge hysteria. They simply offend each other, but nobody provides real facts. It might have happened, but the point is that there is no point in arguing about the past. Hatred gives birth only to hatred. We, current generations, should not repeat the previous mistakes and fight for the best world nowadays.
Under a wonderful Azeri song in YouTube I have a long discussion on the issue with an Armenian guy, who is just offending the Turks. Please try to follow the thread and share your thoughts with me.

Thank you!
God, thank you for giving me the chance to overcome upleasant obstacles and exploit wonderful opportunities! My father and I have had medical operations this month, which is a terrible coincidence. However, thanks to good doctors and good luck, we are full of energy now. Moreover, I have found my dream job: I'll work as business analyst focusing on CSR Services in Deloitte. It's a real wonder, as the recruitment process took just 2 days. Another wonder is that in December I'll go to Tokyo for a conference on international leadership. I've learned about this opportunity just by chance from the Facebook.
Thank you, my friends, for your kind support!

Today I've watched the Banishment by Andrei Zvyagintsev. It's extremely estetic, symbolic and depressive. I'm glad that the Russian directors turn back to people's souls, even tough thoughtless American-style actions are still in demand.
Sometimes we blame others in egoism, which is actually demonstration of our egoism.

I'm addicted to building e-networks. Everytime I enter the Internet, I check up my Facebook and VKontakte, which takes up so much time. I've even attended a special seminar in HSE on social networks, where I met many people I know from different groups.
I must learn how to be effective and efficient. I can be so, but only in stressful atmosphere, when I have to do the impossible for one day. How to live a normal life? How to force myself to do everyday routine, not only flashy life projects?
I'm determined to combine finance and international developoment in my further career. So, I will probably write my term papers, graduation thesis on microfinance. Moreover, I am in search for a job in this area with a development institution. It might sound naive, but it's so important for me that my job contributes to the society.

Hey, Moscow!
I feel as if I haven't left Moscow, because everything is so usual here. I automatically run on streets, thread my way through crowds, and get to places I need. I feel more diversity, danger, creativity, lack of taste, luxury, intellect, philosophy, prosperity, politics, bureaucracy, art, etc. Some may like it or not, but it's definitely the city that is full of energy.
My Estonian experience has been very useful. Professionally, I’ve structured my mind, learnt a lot about accounting in banks, and clarified my future career ambitions. Personally, I’ve got aware of economic and political realities of the Baltics, expanded my international network, and experienced a different mentality. However, I don’t regard this experience as very pleasant.

Bye bye, Estonia!
Last Friday was the day to say bye bye to my colleagues and international friends in Tallinn. So, I brought some melon and water melon to Hansabank and organized Poka Poka Buffet in my flat.
My colleagues were respectful, but, as usual, quite indifferent. I understand it's the mentality, but it's much more easier for me to have either warm or cold relations with people, but not nothing. At least I was glad that everybody told me "See you in Moscow", when I was leaving.
Our Analysis and Planning Department: Kristel, Rait, me, Diana, Mart, Mirko
I will not miss Estonia, but I will miss my international friends, especially Ankur (India) and Mustafa (Turkey). They were the first who came to my Poka Poka Buffet, others came later. I served some Georgian wine with snacks and organized a quizz on Russia and Turkmenistan. Of course, the Estonians have been the best, which is a result of common educational space that used to exist. I gave matryoshkas as prizes and played Russian pop songs.
Saturday, my last day was quite sad. I packed my luggage early in the morning, went shopping with Mustafa, and then helped him to relocate to our flat from the hostel. My best friends came to the train station to see me off. My neighbour in the car was a nice lady, who is an official. She gave me food and told lots of stories from her life, but escaped every political question I asked.

- On Friday I hosted 2 Estonian girls from Parnu. Three interns from Brazil, Hong Kong, and Bulgaria stayed at my room during the weekend. Now a French guy is staying with me for 3 days. I really like meeting new people and helping them.
- Mustafa and I went to Haapsalu for the weekend. It's a small town, known as Estonian Venice, as it's located on stripes of land in the Baltic Sea. It's lovely, but so small and silent. Everybody, especially local girls, stared at us, strange dark guy, hanging around on empty streets.
- My friend from Germany is looking for partners in Eastern Europe. So, I've placed his order on AIESEC Alumni's Forum. But I was very surprised to get one strange letter from one Russian "alumnus" this morning. Besides being full of slang, it claims that I'm a stupid bastard who offers crap.
- Last week I ordered a USB memory stick with a Hansabank Logo via the Internet. I got it this morning, but was so disappointed to realize that its cover doesn't fit the body and it has 2 defects on one of the sides. So, now I'm going to fight to get my money back (about 30 EUR).
- Only one week is left before my departure to Moscow, but I'm already there in my mind. Well, I have to save my personal documents, wash all the clothes, and organize a bye bye party. It's so sad to leave my international friends here. I know I'll have a reintegration shock in Moscow.

Crazy Photos from Russia
That’s a shot from St. Petersburg back from 1992. Here you can see Yeltsin (r.i.p.), just freshly elected as president of Russia, next to him stands Sobchak (r.i.p.) - the mayor of St. Petersburg at that time, and then next to him, Mr. Putin, current president of Russia, deputy of St. Petersburg at that time.
You can see other photos at English Russia.
Warning: For people lacking a sense of humor, access is forbidden!

Postimees:

SelfReflection

Neozhidannoye Pärnu

Working hard // Partying hard
I've finally got very well adjusted to Estonia and everything Estonian. My fears are gone, and I'm proud to claim I'm from Russia, as it's a great country. But we should be more objective in our perception of history and more sensitive to other cultures. However, sometimes I'm embarassed when I see Russian drunken people swearing in public or prostitutes. Hopefully, these problems will go away, when our society gets more well-off.
My internship with Hansabank is very intense. Now I'm gathering lots of financial information about Nordic, CEE and West European banks and unifying the date for comparison. It takes me lots of concentration, as one wrong figure may affect the whole result. My colleagues are friendly and help me whenever I ask, but, of course, there is no such hot reception like in Turkey. It's just a different cultures.
In the meanwhile, I go out often with my international friends, who are the main factor of my integration. I work with Estonians, but have fun with mostly Latinos. So, last weekend we had a Salsa dance class from an Indian teacher, went to a dormitory to celebrate its future demolition and attented an amazing song festival. Imagine, 18000 young people dressed in national clothes sanged together for the whole day. I started loving Estonia then.

Köik on super!
My life in Tallinn is normalising, but sometimes it quite boring.
- On Friday we went a bye bye party of Nadine, a Dutch girl who had studied and worked here for a year. It took place in a flat with a closed yard just in the Old Town. It's so amazing that people can still live in this Medieval environment. We prepared barbeque, drank wine and danced salsa with Mexican girls.
- On Saturday we went to Viljandi, a town in Eastern Estonia. The party took place at an aiesecer's summer house and was dedicated to St. John's day. At first I was a bit scared of mixing with so many unknown Estonians, but they turned to be friendly. Again, I used the opportunity to enjoy barbeque. After midnight we went to the local castle for a public party. It took 30 minutes under rain to go there, but drunken people were the only we could see there. One of the aiesec girls was also so drunken, so that she could stand, but wanted to chat and dance all the time.
- Today I went to Comperess, the popular restaurant with two Spaniards, Venezuelian and Indian to eat traditional Estonian pancakes. Then went to huge Soviet-style embarkment to observe the Baltic Sea. It's a very impressive place, but very abandoned, so that only young people come there for drinking. Investors with imagination could make a fancy attraction of it.
Tallinn is very nice city with a Medieval Old Town, but I've thorougly explored it. So, now I'm in search of any social activities I can engage in after work that ends at 16.00. The point is that most of my friends get free after 19.00, so that I must kill my time in a usefullway.
I'll probaly take Spanish classes.

Do you work till 16.00? Don't tell anybody!
Life is so relaxing in Estonia. I must be the most smartly dressed employee in our department: others come in jeans, shirts, and even slippers. A working day officially ends at 17.00, but some employees are absent at 16.30. Last week we had a farewell party for one girl going for a maternity leave. She brought lots of sandwiches and cakes to please the enormous amount of colleagues, who presented her flowers.

The Prejudice is Gone
I've lived without the Internet for 3 days, which means isolation from the world nowadays. Hopefully, I'll get the computer tomorrow. In other terms I'm very happy: it has been a right decision to come to Tallinn, Estonia.
My first working day has been perfect!
I work in one of the most fancy offices in Tallinn, that is very close to the well-know Tonismagi. It's a 12-storeyed building made of blue glass. It takes me about 30 minutes to go there from my flat, where I live with guys from Brazil, Venezuela, Japan, and Estonia. Our house is a Soviet-type block of flats, but we have a big pine-tree park near us.
My colleagues are very active, friendly and happy about the fact that I've come. I work basically with Estonians, but there are some Russians, who seem to be not so sociable. Everybody speaks very good English, even ladies in the kitchen. So, the famous stereotype of Estonians as slow and mean people has gone for me.
Today Rait, one of my colleagues has showed me the city center. However, I've managed to explore it all for 2 days. It's so nice! Old houses, chirches, paved streets, stairs, towers... You feel like you are in the Middle Ages. Everything is very close and small. I've been to Viru, Tallinn's "big" shopping center, but it's so small in Moscow terms.
Even though the conditions are nice, I feel a bit lonely and sad for no reason. I can see lots of Russians and want to talk with them, but I'm afraid it will be strange. Yesterday I went to the Russian Orthodox Cathedral named after Alexander Nevsky to put candles. When I was listening to the Old Russian spiritual songs, tears came out of my eyes.
It would be easier to go somewhere like Bolivia, where nobody speaks your language. I cannot distinguish Russians and Estonians from their appearance, so that I don't know in what language I should approach. Today one seller has preferred to speak English rather Russian with me, even though I saw him speaking Russian.

From Eesti with Love
I've just arrived from Moscow to Tallinn, Estonia to have an internship with Hansabank. By the way, my bank's logo was the first thing I saw when I came out of the train.
The 18-hour trip by train was ok. My neighbours in the car turned out to be former dwellers of Almaty, Kazakhstan, but now they live in Belgorodskaya Oblast. They've presented me Kazakhstan as a fast-developing and friend country, so that now I want to visit it. They say that many Russians who have moved to Russia are now going back to Almaty, as they have much more better opportunities and level of life there. The other neighbour was a man, who family was travelling in the next kupe. He didn't speak at all, but he was snoozing so loudly! I can't imagine how his relatives can sleep at night.
What are my first imperessions of Estonia? Well, it's not so different from Russia. There are Soviet-style blocks of flats, rusty factories, and drunked people on Sunday morning. I've seen many people speaking Russian. Of course, all train stations are like this, so that I hope to see real Europe soon.
I will share a 3-room flat with a Japanese, a Venezuelian, and a Brazilian - Hugo. The latter will go travelling in two weeks, so that he has suggested me to stay at his place as a sign of gratitude for my help in Moscow. However, now I'm sitting in the flat of Ankur, an Indian guy who has met me at the train station. Now he is sleeping, and it has taken me 30 min to fix his charging cable, so that I can use the lap top know. It's good that we are taught about electronic connections at schools.
Hugo will come from Parnu in the afternoon, so that I'll be able to move to my flat then. When Ankur wakes up, I'll go shopping and get to know Tallinn more.

Crazy Days
Yesterday I picked up my visa from the Estonian Embassy, bought my ticket to Tallinn, went to the dentist, and passed the last exam in this semester. Today I've met my parents' friend in Domodedovo Airport, and I still I have to buy slippers, make passport-sized photos, and meet a couple of people.
I'm leaving for Tallinn tomorrow evening!
I'll be back in 3 months!
Stay tuned!

Paradise is not so far
St. Gallen Symposium has been one of the best activities in my whole life. It's such a unique opportunity to understand global issues, explore Switzerland, and get to know current and future leaders. Everything has been organized at a presidential lever, so that sometimes I felt like I was in the future.
Here you can see the photos taken by me.

Regards from Switzerland

Networking
Attending different event, such conferences, seminars, presentations, etc., increases your opportunities drammatically, as information is everything now.
So, for the last two weeks, I've attended a Banking Law Case Study at my academy, McKinsey Presentation Session, and Bain Case Interview Workshop in Moscow. Luba from AIESEC has been involed in organizaton of two of them. And I've meet Katya, Vanya, Natasha there as well.
Three years ago I went to McKinsey for an interview, but I failed. However, I met there Bakhodir, another interviewee, who is now a good friend of mine. In two years he went to Switzerland and joined AIESEC there. Now he is going to be my host.
Last year I attended EU Study Week in Moscow and met Sergey there. After that we have met 4 times at different events and shared our experiences. I was so surprised, when he told me he had met Alexey in Citigroup. He is my friend from AIESEC St. Petersburg.
Last summer I went to a night club in Bursa, Turkey. It was boring, as nobody could speak English, but one guy asked me something in Turkish. It turned out that he and his friends were from AIESEC, so that I changed the table and spent time with them. He is a friend of Nevin, a trainee in St. Petersburg who I met in Moscow.
I already know that I met Marina, a Russian trainee in Tallinn at Moscow New Year Project in 2005. And the elected VPF of AIESEC Estonia is my roommate from Cappadoccia Tour in Turkey.
The world is small!

Molitva /
I've been so excited about Eurovision Song Contest for the last 3 days, but felt lazy to share my impressions.
Here is Marija's song in Serbian, Russian, and English.
Just some thoughts:
- The Eastern European singers have been more genuine and impressive. The Western signers used many cliches and deviant images, such as those from Sweden and France. Wake up, Europe! But we should admit that New Europeans are more active voters, as their national identities are just forming. The most active voters in the West are national minorities, such as the Turks.
- Polical and geographical influence on the voting still presents. However, I've been surpirised to hear about the highest points from Turkey to Armenia and from Estonia to Russia. In the first case, it might be an excuse after Hrant Dink's murder. I don't belive that Estonia wanted to say sorry after the relocation of the monument, so that the Russian minority must have been active.
- Inspite of all the influences, the Serbian song was really the best! I voted for it for two times. Unlike the Russian girls, Marija is an individuality and great performer on air. Although you can't get the words, but you feel her sencere feelings. This song is about Great Love, but one Russian reporter shamelessly claimed it was about oppression of Serbia by the West.
The ESC is widely used for propaganda.

Discussing the Themes for Leadership Streams
As you might know, I'm a member of a creative task force with AIESEC. We should create a logo and theme for International President's Meeting (IPM), a major convention of AIESEC leaders to be held in Skopje, Macedonia next year.
At first, every member created his own logo and theme, but the Focus Group couldn't choose the best. So, we've decided to brainstorm on the theme first and create the logo later. Well, we have a good pile of ideas. Every idea with any rhyme or .ipm is mine.
Which one do you like most of all?

Victory Day
Today is a unique day: it brings sadness, proudness and happiness at the same time. 63 years ago Nazi Germany capitulated after the attacks of the anti-Hitler coalition. The Soviet Union played a key role in the defeat of this evil, but lost about 27 million people. This was the cost of our freedom.
That is why this day is so important for people from the former Soviet Union. Every single family lost somebody in this terrible war. At that time my Russian grandmother was a kid, but she had just a piece of bread as allowance per a day. Her brother was recruited at 20, but was soon killed in an unknown place.
Nevertheless, our family didn't suffer much from the war in comparison with others. About 6 million Jews were killed by the nazi from 1933 to 1945. It's beyond my comprehension: the nazi made soap of people's fat, used their skins for making gloves, tried new vaccines on them. It might be the reason that the Jews are the majority of Soviet Union Heroes.
I admit that this great victory over evil was followed by the occupation. The USSR and USA, as major winners in that war, allocated the territories of influence. That was the rigid reality of that time, but the poor soldiers, who sacrified their lives for freedom, had nothing to do with that political terror. So, they should be respected and commemorated.
Today I've had a feeling of joy and integrity. Almost all the people I met on the streed had a Georgion tape pinned on their clothes (on the pic). Some girls were so anxious to get them, so that they secretly took them of from cars' antennas. This is a symbol of respect to those who fell during the war. After the 90's, the year of moral decline, the society is changing in a positive way.
Life in Russia is changing. I can assess the whole county, but I've withnessed the development of Perovo, my district in Moscow. When I first came to our local Perovsky park 5 year ago, I saw drunken teenages walking on deserted side-walks. When I come there now, I can see lots of parents with babies, teenagers cycling or skating everywhere, pensioners airing their dogs. It's so green and busy!
Today I went to our park for a Victory Day concert. Most of my neigbours also came there with children to listen to the old, but touching songs of War time. Such concerts've been held across Moscow, including the Red Square, where 30000 people came. Yes, they are used for propaganda, but there is nothing dangerous in propaganda, if it is aimed at peace and integrity.
The culmination of the holiday was great fire-works in 14 locations all over Moscow!
Peace

Mestechko Chuli
My parents have just come back from Turkmenistan. They travelled to Chuli, a nice place in the Kopetdag Mountains on the border with Iran. I know every single corner there, as I used to go to Chuli every summer for vacation. Still I have lots of dreams happening there.

Monuments are Alive
This is my reply to Deniss' post. I'm so depressed with what is going on in Estonia. I never thought I would care about this country so much.
We should live today. Unfortunately, occupation has been typical of many stronger nations, not only the Soviet Union. Romans, Arabs, Mongols, Turks, Germans and others tried to conquer Europe. They failed, but we eat Nopoleon pie, which doesn't symbolize his military compaigns. Our generation is not responsible for the past, so that we should open new chapters in international relations.
We should avoid double standars. It's surprising that people are concerned about what happened 50 years ago, but pay no attention to what is going now. Is US releasing Iraq from dictatorship or invading it to get access to it's natural resources? To my mind, it's the same case as with Estonia after the WWII. At the same time, Russia engages in a conflict, when it needs to raise patriotic feelings. In Ashgabat, my native city Soviet monuments and graves were also domolished, but Moscow said nothing, as it needs Turkmen gas.
We should turn down political provocation. Estonian deputees have passed this decision for populism. It doesn't improves lives of today's Estonia citizens, but has led to the great confrontation in the society. Could the forsee the broken shops, injured people, diplomatic conflicts? This is short-sighted policy leading only to the negative. Similarly, Russian populist movements are interested in the escalation of the conflict, which actually worsens the the situation of Russian minority in Estonia.
Now the Estonian Embassy in Moscow doesn't work, but I need to apply for a visa. I didn't know how it happened that I got so engaged in this conflict.
I hope it will end up with peace!

Hola!
I've spent the last two days with Hugo, Daniel, and Anya. The first two guys are Brazlians, who are on internships in Tallinn and Tartu, Estonia. Anya is a Russian girl studying at Tartu University.
Since I'm going to Estonia, I wanted to get first-hand info about the situation there. They say I will enjoy it, but still there is a kind of fear because of the conflict between Estonian authorities and Russians. I will have to be a real ambassador, demonstrate leadership and tolerance, and adapt to the completely different mentality. It's a challenge!
Brazilians are open, energetic and curious people. It's interesting to meet people from other continents, as they have different horizons. For example, Hugo and Daniel had no idea about Georgia, Lebanon, Turkmenistan, etc. Similarly, we might be too focused on Eurasia and far from the problems of Latin America and Africa.
Where have we been? Red Square -> Kremlin -> Historical Museum -> Christ the Saviour Cathedral -> Arbat -> Vorobivy Gory -> Detsky Mir -> Leningradsky Vokzal.
Surprisingly, when we were coming out of the metro to the trainstation, we met one more Brazilian in the crowd. She was a tall black lady, a volley-ball player in the Russian team.

Making a career
Vedomosti VUZ, a supplement to the famous Vedomosti has published my story about making a career. Oh my god, I'm so full of conceit!
Management Trainee Program 2008.

Colour revolutions
While Ukraine and Kyrgyzstan are facing a new wave of political challenges, Russian mass media is trying to reveal the sponsors of colour revolutions and their secret interests.

- Frankly speaking, I don't have a solid point of view on what is going on, but just mixed thoughts:
- Countries of Eastern Europe and Central Asia certainly deserve democracies. However, loyalty to the US and democracy is not the same, even though the Bush administration is pushing this propaganda line.
- Government and business should generate opportunities for talented and active young people. Otherwise, they will take advantage of other opportunities, offered by other countries pursuing their national interests.
- External intervention in political affairs leads to long-term dangerous consequences. It has caused many civil wars, international conflicts and even clashes of civilization.
Look at Yushchenko, who is democratic from an American point of view, but neglects the constitution of Ukraine and doesn't care about the future of his country. The same is for Yeltsin, who was a drunken cheater raping the country, but hugging with Clinton as a "real democrat".
Look at the active students, who volunteered for the tulip revolution in Bishkek. There are many Russians among them, but they love America more than Russia, as it pays for their education in AUCA, sends them to US univeristies, recruits in US NGOs. I would also use this opportunity.
First of all, October Revolution, 1917 was also a colour revolution, as Lenin live abroad and was sponsored by the West. It has lead the great dictatorship in Eurasia. Millions of people were executed during the civil war, millions of people were tortured to death under Stalin, millions of people wer impoverished during perestroika.
The USSR and US were competing to get control over Vietnam and Afghanistan. As a result of the first competition, tens of thousands American soldiers were killed. The second competition has resulted in the appearance of Osama bin Laden and other terrorists, as the US sponsored the mojaheds, who would fight against the Soviets. Ten years later they started to fight against the Americans.
The last parliament elections in Ukraine were recognized as "the most democratic elections in its history". However, Yushchenko has neglected the people's choise, as he cares only about his status quo. His "democratic", but unconstitutional decision may lead to the break-up of Urkaine into two states.
Make your conclusions yourself!

Friday 13
I don't believe in superstitions any more. Yesterday, on Friday 13 my sister went to a rock concert of Black Coffee Group, and she was sitting on the 13th seat in the 13th row. Nothing happenned to her.

Renaissance
Today I've escaped my Economic Analysis and gone to cinema to watch Renaissance. It looks like a black-and-white cartoon, but actually it's a movie with special effects. In other things, it's a copy of any James Bond plot, but in Paris, 2059.
A genius girl Ilona Tusuiev, born in the Caucasus knows how to reach immortality. CEO of Avalon, a global health corporation decides to kidnap her in order to reach his evil goals. Karas, the capitan struggles with his security and kills lots of people to free her. When she is out, Karas learnes that she is a witch herself, so that he kills her.
Action, no thoughts, as usual. But at least I could practice my English comprehension skills, as it's without translation. Also, be careful about your personal data in the Internet.

Crazy Spring in Moscow
Today the weather has been changing every minute. Sun, wind, snow, sun again... It's so strange, but I do like it.
